I used a new technique that sort of happened by accident. The chalkboard background layer started as black cardstock. I spotted white re-inker and wiped it all over the cardstock with a slightly damp paper towel. The result looks like a dirty chalkboard. You could also use this technique to white-wash any paper. Give it a few minutes to rest afterward, so it has time to dry.
