Mojo Monday 172 - Contest

Well, I have finally decided to enter my first online card contest. I frequently stalk a few different challenge blogs, but have not entered any as of yet. Well, here goes:

MOJO172 is the first Mojo Monday Challenge of 2011. I used the sketch to create a birthday card for a very special man, my Dad. His birthday isn't for a few months, so shh, please don't tell! :-)

I rotated the sketch 180 degrees. The background is remaining faux wood planks from my Christmas Card project the other day, I had made two whole 12x12 pages at once, figuring I would want to use them on something else. Want to know how to do the faux wood technique? Go to Tracey Mason's video tutorial here.

The rope and net were ribbon in my stash. The paper is from CTMH's Grace paper pack. I used the D1353 Campin' Fever My Acrylix stamp set to create the images. First I stamped the images onto colonial white cardstock. Then cut them out and distressed all edges with cocoa ink using a foam tool. I used plenty of foam tape for added dimension. Colors used are twilight, honey, olive, and cocoa. I used the any color embossing technique for the words, stamping them first in cocoa ink, then again with Versamark, covered in clear embossing powder, then heated with my craft heater.

The fish was inked first with olive ink, then I rolled the top of the fish in twilight ink and stamped the image. After it dried, I smeared liquid glass over the top with my finger, waited for it to dry, and cut out the fish. After I attached the fish to the card, I covered the body again with liquid glass, leaving the fins just shiny from the previous application. I accidentally heated it with my craft heater, while embossing the words (because that was an afterthought). Well, it kind of bubbled up and looks like scales, so happy accident! It's a new technique "bubbled liquid glass". Who knew?

The fly started with an image from the stamp set. After cutting it out, and threading the eye, I used liquid glass to adhere pieces of the rope ribbon that I had first colored with honey ink.

And of course, what do you get for the sportsman who has everything? A Cabela's gift card. On the inside I created a pocket to hold the gift card.

Happy Scrapping!

Hi there Jen, I happened to notice your entry in the gallery as one which really stood out. I too stalk challenge sites and keep saying I will enter but seldom do. In fact I only just entered my first the other day hahah! In any case I just wanted to stop by to tell you how much I admired your card. It is a very inventive interpretation of the sketch which is really nice to see. I love it. Good luck. Maybe I will get around to entering. I look forward to seeing your future projects/cards in 2011. Happy New Year and best wishes. :-)
